Our aesthetic is inspired by British refinement, while our shoes are handcrafted in Spain, a country renowned for its long-standing shoemaking heritage. Preserving the Craft of Shoemaking

The art of shoemaking has evolved over centuries, shaped by skilled hands and a dedication to precision. Yet in an age of mass production, many traditional techniques are gradually disappearing. At Poyter, we believe these methods deserve to be preserved. Our footwear is crafted using time-honoured techniques such as Goodyear welt construction — a method that requires experience, skill, and patience. Rather than prioritising speed or automation, we work with workshops that value craftsmanship and the artisans behind it. Every pair of shoes passes through the hands of experienced shoemakers, ensuring the integrity of the craft remains intact.

Benchmade Craftsmanship

Alongside our ready-to-wear and made-to-order collections, Poyter also offers Made to Measure footwear crafted using traditional benchmade techniques. Benchmade shoemaking represents one of the most authentic forms of footwear production. Each pair is created with minimal use of machinery, relying instead on the experience and precision of skilled artisans who shape, stitch, and assemble the shoe by hand.

In many cases, this includes hand-welting, a meticulous process that connects the upper, insole, and sole through careful hand stitching. This technique demands exceptional craftsmanship and results in footwear with remarkable durability and structure.

While the majority of our production is centred in Spain, we also work with highly skilled artisans across different
parts of the world for our bespoke and made-to-measure footwear. Many of these craftsmen are based in developing regions where traditional shoemaking techniques have been preserved and refined over centuries. Through this collaboration, we support communities of artisans whose knowledge and hand skills continue to shape the craft of fine shoemaking. Their expertise, passed down through generations, plays an important role in creating our benchmade shoes, where careful handwork and minimal machinery remain essential to the
process.

Our approach prioritises skilled employment within traditional shoemaking communities, careful sourcing of quality materials, smaller production volumes with greater attention to detail, and craft-led processes that rely on skilled artisans rather than heavy automation.

Perhaps the most responsible choice in footwear is longevity. Our shoes are built using Goodyear welt construction, allowing them to be repaired and resoled over many years. Combined with high-quality leather and traditional craftsmanship, this creates footwear
designed to be worn and enjoyed for decades.
